50 Shelters - 50 States: Arizona

Hi, everyone.  I'm safely back from my trip, but wow, what a week it's been.  I feel like I've been in fast forward mode for the past several days.  Rest assured, Tucker and the Gang will be back posting with regularity very soon, and we'll get back in our regular routine of making the rounds to visit all of you, which we've really missed doing.  But meanwhile, I'd like to get back on track with the 50-50, and the next state where we'll be spotlighting a dog and a cat in a city or county run shelter is Arizona.  I've got some gems for you today, for sure!

Meet Little Bear!

Little Bear is a 5+ year old shepherd mix residing at the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA

According to his shelter write-up, Little Bear is a calm, laidback gentleman who enjoys attention in the form of lots of petting and back rubs.  He'd be equally as happy strolling about the neighborhood or lounging on the couch.  Ah, the benefits of a more mature, but certainly not OLD, canine companion!  Young enough to be ready for just about anything, but mature enough that he is also capable of sitting back and just enjoying life.  Because he's 5+ years old, Little Bear is eligible for a special adoption incentive:  if his lucky adopter is 60+, his adoption fee will be discounted 20%!  How great is that?!!!!!!!! Two of the shelter staff's favorite things about Little Bear (I have a feeling there are many things they love about him - just look at his face!) are his wonderful leash manners and his affectionate nature.  He sure looks like a sweetheart to me!  Let's help him find a great home!

Also residing at the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA is Yoshi!

What a handsome guy Yoshi is, don't you think?

His page says that he is new to the shelter, and that more information will be available soon, but anyone who's in the area should stop on over and meet him.  I bet anyone who does will fall in love with him ... how could you resist that face?  Plus, everyone knows that orange male cats are super special!  After all - look at Garfield!  I'm not suggesting that anyone who adopts Yoshi feed him lasagna, (cats are carnivores, not cornivores, after all!) but the point is, he is clearly an undiscovered treasure just waiting there patiently for someone to come along and fall in love with him.  You can bet he'll love them back with all the love he's got to give!

Once again, Little Bear and Yoshi are both residing at the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA.  They're located at 30 N. 40th Place in Phoenix, and their phone # is 602-273-6852.  They're open from 11am - 7pm Tuesday through Friday, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 6pm.  (They're closed on Mondays.)

Can't adopt Little Bear or Yoshi?  How about being a volunteer, or signing up to be a foster parent for a dog or cat who needs a little extra TLC before being ready to find a forever home?

If you're 18 or older and want to volunteer, call the Volunteer Coordinator at (602) 273-6852, ext. 101.

Want to open your heart and home to a special dog or cat?  Call the Foster Care Coordinator, at 602-273-6852, ext. 113.

Or you can always make a tax-deductible donation!

As always, if you want to participate in the 50-50, please feel free to grab the badge, or suggest a shelter in your state to be featured.  We're doing this thing alphabetically, so the next state in line is Arkansas, which I'll try to complete later this week.

Have a great day everyone!
