Strolling on Saturday

Happy Saturday, everyone!  And Happy Labor Day Weekend!  We're visiting Grandma & Grandpa this weekend, and they live near this really nice park where we like to take walks in the evenings after dinner, but this morning we decided to get up early and go down before it got too hot.

We saw these dolphins swimming in a fountain right near the entrance of the park ...

We walked by the Children's Museum ...

Where we met these guys ...

And then we saw these kids reading a book...

Of course we made sure to follow the letter of the law ...

We walked ...

Down by the water ...

Where we stopped to rest ...

And learn a little bit about native plantlife ...

We walked out onto the pier ...

Where Phoebe's attention was caught by a school of jumping mullet ...

Then we circled back around by the car, where Phoebe was intrigued by some squirrels who were foraging for breakfast ... but they scampered up a nearby tree to escape her attention ...

So while Phoebe sniffed around on the ground ... I got Mom to give me a boost up into the tree to get a closer look ...

Wow, it's really high up here ...

(Mom note:  I promise that Tucker was in no danger ... the little cavity in this tree was plenty big enough to hold him, and trust me, he knows better than to jump.)

Then we went home for breakfast ... but on the way, we saw these big birds ... who seemed to also be looking for something to eat ...

(Mom note:  these are two of a rather large flock of peafowl who used to belong to a now-deceased movie star and local legend who once performed with Bob Hope - she lived in the neighborhood and had quite a large estate on the river.  A good fifty plus years ago, she obtained a small flock of peafowl who soon became neighborhood pets.  They irritate some people, but I grew up with them, so I always enjoy seeing them when I return home.  At night as they return to roost, the call that they make is eerie - kind of like a baby crying.)

Hope everyone has a fun Saturday ... but before we sign off, Finn would want me to remind you about the Comment-A-Thon we're doing in conjunction with the Back In Black Adoption Event ...

Leave your comment HERE to be entered in a random drawing and win a donation of up to $100 to be given in your name to the rescue group or shelter of your choice!  So leave your comment today ... and tell all your friends, in Blogville and IRL, to do the same.  Finn says thanks!

Hi
That's a really interesting post and it looks like a fun day out. I love the pic of Tucker up the tree.

We call those birds peacocks (or pea hens if they are the females who don't have those particularly exotic tails). I've never heard them called pea fowl. They do make a spooky noise. There are some that live in the next village to us. They seem to be "free range". Not sure who they really belong to.

Love and licks, Winnie

@ Winnie ... Peacocks are peafowl. The drab brown ones are the pea hens.

What a lovely and very interesting stroll, Phoebe and Tucker! Thank you for sharing! Me and Charlie liked the dolphins and dragons and the seagrass info!!

Tucker you looked most comfy sitting inside that tree!

Peafowl are just lovely - they do have a very strange call though!!

Take care

It looks like you had a very fun outing! And I think the Back in Black adoption event and commentathon are such good ideas! As a lifelong admirer of black kitties, I love to see them get the attention that they rightfully deserve.

Envious! We tried taking a walk in OUR favorite park yesterday and got eaten by mosquitoes. Had to cut the day short!

The pic of you in the tree is just too precious, Tucker!
