This might be fun for Mom ... but Phoebe and I are not amused! (Phoebe especially!)
P.S. Mom says this little exercise is not for her own amusement. (Yeah, right!) She says it is actually to teach/reinforce our impulse control so that when we are out on walks and sniff something that smells appetizing, or if, in the house, while the humans are cooking or eating, they may drop something that we shouldn't have, we will remember that "leave it" means we shouldn't eat it or even sniff it too closely, no matter how yummy it smells. Now, in fairness to Mom, she didn't tell us to "leave" these cookies. She told us to "wait." But even still - what is the point? WE know she's going to let us eat the cookies. SHE knows she's going to let us eat the cookies. So why delay the inevitable? Perhaps it is to give the cookies a chance to come to terms with the fact that they're about to be eaten?
P.P.S. The cookies were yummy! Thanks, Mom. I guess ...

**Giggling** I hear ya! The Mama put a ridiculous amount of work into the whole "leave it" thing. Um, Mama, here's a thought. If you don't want me to eat things off the kitchen floor, try being a tidiier cook. Your awkward clumsiness should not be my issue.
You two do look awful cute waiting there though...
Awwww lovely Phoebe and adorable Tucker!! You are good good good woofies for being very patient and having your treats when it is ok to have them! Yay for you both and for mum!!
Take care
x
Could this picture be any cuter!!!! Impulse control, bawhahahahaha - take the cookie and run!
Your pal, Pip
Wowza that is some impulse control, Mom does this with Bob with his food bowl and makes him wait but he probably wouldnt do it for a treat. We call it torture! But before he started working on this skill he had a food guarding problem
Oh and Brando and Bogart helped mom with photo bucket so we have a blog header back. Now she does needs to figure out a way to put up a pic of Norbert too. Thanks so much for your help!
How's did you two ever get to be so patient????? If it was mee, dat cookie would of been long gone!
Boy do I ever admire your restraint!
Dakota knows "leave it" and "wait" but I honestly don't think he would obey either of those commands with cookies right in front of him!
Great job!
Oh yes, that leave it command - we get it all the time and we don't like it either. And then there is the "wait" when she puts our food bowls down. OK, if you want us to wait, why did you bother putting the bowls down? Sheesh!!!
Glad you DID get the yummy cookies.
Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
What is this "impulse control" of which you speak?
Wow, you guys did great not eating those cookies right away. We do that kind of "training" this way as well. :)
Good job! Have a fun and safe New Years Eve! See you next year!
Ha ha ha, but a good idea! As long as you got those cookies in the end, it's all good!
Happy New Year, Sweet Furiends (and especially my darling Olivia)! X♥O♥X♥O♥X♥O♥
You guys are so good! I've been meaning to teach this to Frankie and Beryl (along with a lot of other stuff!) but I just can't bring myself to do it, lol!
That's a really impressive "wait." JF and Dewi are least fond of that command at our house. But you are so right, It IS FOR A DOG'S OWN GOOD!;-)
Been catching up on the goings-on at your house and want you to know that I tweeted (just now) Scout's chip-in post. I see he's about $300 from the new goal, and I sure hope the rest comes through soon. What a wonderful thing you are doing for that little dog. (Imagining what might have happened to your own (or even my) rescued pets if not for the kindness of others really does make it personal.)
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that 2012 is very good to you and your furry family!
This is a great exercise! I make Yuki and Rocket do this even for their meals.
