Happy Friday, all! MP here! So ... anyone who has followed this blog for any length of time knows that my photography skills (or lack thereof) have been a source of frustration for me. All I can say is it's fortunate for me that I have some really cute subjects to photograph, otherwise I'd be sunk!) Still, it's something I've been trying to work on, and I did sign up for a photography workshop (that has since been put on hold indefinitely due to lack of enrollment) so for now I'm still on my own. I'd say I've made a small amount of progress, but still have a long way to go, and therefore photo editing programs like Picnik are my new best friends!
Not only do they help me improve the photos I'm currently taking but I can also go back and look at photos I've taken previously (some of which are REALLY bad) and try to make something usable out of them. I'm also really intrigued by the pencil drawing feature that I used on this picture of Tanner I posted a few days ago.
Last night I found some pictures of Tucker I'd taken last December and one in particular I liked quite a bit ...
not because it was a very good photo but because it captured something in Tucker that I particularly treasure ... the gentle, earnest, often wistful expression in his soft brown eyes. So I decided to play around with it a bit and after I'd cropped it a little and messed around with the pencil drawing feature, I ended up with this ...
which has become my new screen saver!
Meanwhile, speaking of photography, have you "scene" THIS BLOG? If not, you simply must! It will make your day ... I promise!

Also, thank you for your link to my blog above! Have a great weekend!
Stewey
We wondered how you did that beautiful shot of Tanner - very impressive. And now this one of Tucker - you did so very well bringing out that wistful expression. Now Mom says for sure she has to go try it out.
Happy weekend.

You're welcome, Stewey! We so enjoy your blog and we do love to tell others about a good thing!
OP Pack, we bet the pencil drawing feature would work really nicely with that beautiful husky fur! We can't wait for you to try it out so we can ogle the results!
Twenty-Six to Life is hosting a free photography course that you would be more than welcome to participate in! I've learned a lot so far, and even though its been happening for a few weeks now, you can, of course, access the old posts and prompts and either catch up or do it on your own.

@ K-Koira, I've been following Kate's photography course and have intellectually learned quite a bit. Its putting that information to practical use that I'm struggling with.
That's really cool! Our mom has a Piknik account, but she spends NO TIME using it. She stinks. I wanted to thank you all so much for stopping by to wish me a happy gotcha day last weekend!!! I just love gotcha days, and I love my blogging friends!!!!
Love, Zoe
Tucker,
I have the same problem. Being new to this blogging thing, I realize now I have ALOT to learn.
You are an inspiration, thanks:)
Handsome Tucker, tell mum she takes FABULOUS pics of all of you! Yay!!
Big hello to sweet Stewey! Take care
x
Tucker, Mom loves this sweet photo of you. She's gonna try the 'Picnik'.
xoxo Kassey
I use Picnik too through picassa! It's a whole lot to learn, but that pic of Tucker is adorable. Think you're definitely going in the right direction :))
I think you are way too hard on yourself! You take great pictures! This is an especially beautiful and telling picture of Tucker. It definitely tells a story and that's what a picture should do.
Your pal, Pip
I loved the first photo of Tucker but that second one is breathtaking. Fantastic.
I just enrolled in an online class for Photoshop Elements. I'll let you know how it goes!
Have a nice weekend..... :o)
I use picnik too - im totally addicted..maybe too much actually :)
I am EXACTLY the same as you! I take all of my photos for my blog with my Droid...my pictures are less than stellar.
I found Picnik about a week ago and signed up immediately! I have been addicted as well and I must say it has helped my photos greatly (when I use it! lol)
I used it this week for Cody's Halloween photos in his cowboy outfit and for the most part I love how they came out!
@ Caren, I think your photos are great ... and I love the recent cowboy ones! I'm not sure what Droid you have, but you probably have some things you can play around with on it - mine has a lomo setting, an oil painting setting, etc. For a camera phone it's not bad!
Hi Tucker! I don't know what's up but for some reason I can't see pictures on any of my furiend's blogs today! Sooo flusterating!!!
But I wanted to say Hi anyway :-)
Great heads up about Stewey's blog, it's so clever:)
Your photos are always great! It's easy to see the love you have for your family of pets. I've wondered about Picnik but never gotten around to checking it out. Will have to make sure I do after seeing your results:) Both versions of Tucker's photo are lovely.
The pencil style photo looks great. I think your pics are very good. Sometimes I am not too happy with mine, particularly the backgrounds, but hopefully they will keep getting better and sometimes I take a good one
ha ha, my mom has been obsessed for a long time with picnik! you should've seen her last halloween, she was making everyone into zombies and she couldn't get enough. i'm just glad there's other people out there like my mom!
I am kind of lucky because my dad is an amateur photographer so I do get some good shots once in awhile unless mom is behind the camera with her cheapo point and shoot. haha
My blog would not be the same without picnik. Love what you're doing with it!
