When Blogging Becomes A Four Letter Word

First of all, thank you to those of you who noticed we've been MIA, and cared enough to email and ask whether we're ok.  It's nice to be missed, and proves yet again, as if I needed any proof, how nurturing, supportive, and caring a place the Blogosphere is. The short answer is yes ... everyone at Chez Tucker is healthy and well.

The longer, and more truthful, answer, is that yes, we're all fine, but the human in the equation, namely me, has lately been chronically busy, chronically tired, and chronically short of any sort of inspiration.  All this combined tends to make blogging a chore rather than something I enjoy, so rather than making a daily blog entry just one more item on my to do list, I have simply not been blogging much.

Also, a recent string of long hours and seven day work weeks (the result of working on proposals for three new clients that the ad agency I work for is trying to bring on board) have started to make all the days sort of run together.  Which is why, in case anyone was wondering and too polite to ask, I posted a Wednesday post yesterday.  It's because, all day, I was wandering around in a daze thinking it was Wednesday instead of Tuesday.  Realizing only this morning that it wasn't was part blessing, as it means that I have one more week day to get my work done and that maybe I won't have to cancel plans I've been very much looking forward to in favor of heading to the office yet again, a trip I swear my car could make all by itself, but also part curse, as it means that I am not as close to the much-anticipated weekend as I had thought.  It also means that I am wearing the proverbial egg on my face, the result of posting a One-Word-Wednesday post yesterday when it was still only Tuesday.

Oh, well.  The picture of Finn was cute, I thought, and I hope those who saw it enjoyed it, even as they were scratching their heads and wondering what was wrong with me.

For those who asked, my grandmother is still ill ... but still hanging on ... and she's out of the hospital, out of the rehab center, and living with my aunt.  This is good news, but also means that Tucker can't visit her, as my aunt's dog, B, is a bit wild and would not react well to canine visitors, and that's a bit sad, as I know how much she enjoyed his visits, and how much Tucker loved having a job as a therapy dog again.

As for the future of the blog - I know that for the immediate future our blog posts will likely be sporadic at best.  Long term, I am less sure.  I love blogging, ordinarily, and I love reading other people's blogs, but lately I've been thinking that perhaps this particular blog has run its course.  I can't imagine blogging without the animals as the focus, but perhaps I would enjoy it more if I did it differently than I am now.  As much as I enjoy reading other blogs that are written from the animal's perspective, I've found that I don't really love writing from it.  I don't really know why that is, but it's definitely the way I feel, so it's something I may need to think about a little further.  Possibly a fresh start would re-energize and re-inspire me.  Or maybe not.  I guess we'll see.

Sometimes life just has to get I the way of fun. Hope life slows down for you although today being busy with work is probably a good thing in some ways. Be sure to take time for you. We hope Grandma will be better soon.

Well we were so dazzled by gorgeous Fin's yawn we didn't notice what day it was! Yay!

But seriously!! I think that's why I only post once a week now - I don't feel so under pressure to visit everyone everyday only when I feel like it. Recently I've even managed to not comment for a couple of days!! Yay!

Whatever you decide, I hope it'll be something that makes you happy and gives outlet to your creativity! Take care

I totally understand about writing from the animals perspective, which is why I don’t, generally. It is my blog and I write about other things apart from Austin and Tigger, though they seem to be there most of the time lol. I also only do one or two posts a week. Couldn’t possibly do more and people don’t seem to mind too much!!!

It is a good idea to have time out and a regroup/rethink. You will be inspired again, I’m sure :)

GruffHello there! We have found you here after a bit of a paw plod over from Posie's - the title of your post caught our eye at her place - we gotta say (that is me, Barnie the Border Terrier and Mummy2Legs, my hapless helper) that we pretty much agree with all that you said - lately we have taken a break for our holidays and have not published a post in about 3 weeks - and do you know what, the world did not end, might not make us the most popular, but also might not make us the least - we'd rather 1 person/2Leg/4Leg came to see us occasionally through choice than 100 speedily clicking simply to comment only because we commented on their's - we'd like to get to know people, thus don't think we will ever be famous - does it matter - naarreeee....World is still here.....hopefully you will be too - as and when you can and want to your own way! Take care, great to meet you, I've rambled on a bit this will leave you in peace now! Love Barnie x

Blogging should be fun and not a chore. You have to do what works for you. Sometimes taking a break helps renew your interest.

Since I've only been blogging a few months I have lots of fun and enthusiasm but I too am wondering how it's going to be in a few weeks when school starts and I have a real job again. I probably won't post as often or comment as much as it is surprisingly time-consuming. I think if you are feeling a pull to switch formats that you should go for it. Your blog should make you happy and not be a chore - who needs more chores??? I do love your blog photos but a non-pet focus might give you a chance to express yourself in a more satisfying way.
Best of luck and hope your life settles down some soon!

Understandable. Someday when you catch your breathe, maybe you can pick up blogging again. It must be stressful holding down a job and keeping a blog going. I don't post everyday.

A break can definitely help. Lots us do it. Sometimes we just don't have any inspiration. And we are not required to blog as an animal. Lots of bloggers blog as the "owners" of "pets" and that is perfectly acceptable. An animal is part of all our lives, but (I hope) it isn't the only part. There are jobs, family, friends, etc. And who doesn't want to brag about children or grandchildren? Perfectly acceptable and "normal". I got a great human casserole recipe from a blog which is about cats! Hobbies are fun to share. Talent is fun to share. Photography, art, gardening, music, and lots of other things are fun. Hope this helps and re-inspires you.
ps. I thought yesterday was Thursday. You are not alone. That's what editing is there for!
